However, it appears that I go out of my way to criticize the 'going green' crowd and the media outlets that want to guilt trip me into thinking that my car is destroying the planet. What people seem to be telling me, is, "sure, these people are annoying, and maybe wrong, but doesn't it help the planet to go ahead and clean it up?"
In other words, if you really cared about the planet you would help the fanatics save it, even if you thought they misunderstood some science stuff somewhere.
My problem is that these trendy eco-friendly people are not always helpful to the environment. I was passionate about recycling before learning that it doesn't appear to be very helpful and might actually hurt the environment. (More blogging on that later.) Political groups are asking for crazy amounts of money to combat man-made global warming, which appears to be fictional. Why should I want my government to spend billions of dollars to fight an enemy that doesn't exist in our air? That is harmful to our country and to our economy.
This is a huge topic, but I don't want to unpack all of it in one sitting. I want to blog about the specifics but, for now, I would invite you to take a test. It's an excellent test written by Monte Hieb, P.E. It's quite fast and gives some good information. I learned quite a bit from it when I ran across it a few weeks ago.

Global warming is probably not caused from the exhaust from our cars. But because of whatever reasons (blame the media or blame the idiots watching the media) the majority of consumers out there think we are the cause. Because of this perception (combined with the rest of the green movement) the auto industry has had to design and make cars that get better gas mileage and produce less exhaust. The building industry is under pressure to produce buildings that are as energy efficient as possible, and actually designed to reflect the climate they are being built in. The results have been pretty healthy restrictions for our economy, IMO. (of course there are probably a lot of wasted dollars getting used in addition to these helpful measures)
But to back up, I don’t think the scientific community should be supporting false theories just to manipulate the public into being more responsible. Science should be trying to understand the physical world in which we live, to communicate this understanding accurately, so that the steps we take as individuals will not only sustain our physical systems but improve them.
It’s our capitalistic economy’s fault. Somehow the majority of consumers must feel threatened in order for our economy to react; otherwise it is straight into oblivion. We need a dictator who can just tell the car companies they need to build better cars, global warming or no. You up for the job Adam? I mean I’d vote for you with a platform like that.
One simple way to decrease the amount of global warming cause by man is to tell Al Gore and his green cult followers to shut the (expletive deleted) up and stop spewing so much hot air.
global dimming.
