Come to our Halloween book burning. We are burning Satan's bibles like the NIV, RSV, NKJV, TLB, NASB, NEV, NRSV, ASV, NWT, Good News for Modern Man...We will also be burning Satan's music such as country, rap, rock, pop, heavy metal, western, soft and easy, southern gospel, contemporary Christian, jazz, soul, oldies but goldies, etc...We will also be burning Satan's popular books written by heretics like... Billy Graham, Rick Warren...John McArthur, James Dobson, Charles Swindoll, John Piper...The Pope, Rob Bell...Donald Miller...
The scriptural basis for this bizarre event comes from a passage in the book of acts:
Many of those who believed now came and openly confessed their evil deeds. A number who had practiced sorcery brought their scrolls together and burned them publicly... (Acts 19, 18-19)
This church is using some questionable extrapolation if they think that the burning of sorcerous scrolls is equivelent to burning Jazz and country music. By burning those scrolls, the new believers in the book of Acts were leaving behind their old sinful ways. They didn't burn the works of Plato or Cicero - just those things they should not have been doing.
That church also preaches quite loudly that the King James Bible is the only authoritive translation. This is a common myth amongst the non-historical crowd. The King James translation is wonderful, but the work done on the good modern versions actually surpasses it by translating the old manuscrpts into contemporary English and bringing the most up to date scholarship to the project.
I don't really have much else to say, but I want to point out that millions of churches are not doing this sort of thing so. So, it would be unfair to think that every Christian wants to burn copies of Johnny Cash records. I like Johnny Cash.
Here's a link to the story, here's the church website, and here's the video that's going viral as we speak. Tell me what you think.

This has got to be a joke. The pastor in the overalls? The branding of Billy Graham as a heretic? The cheap HTML website? The burning of Bibles? The announcement that BBQ & fried chicken will be served?
Someone should dig deeper into this church and the pastor. I simply can't believe this is all on the up and up.
This is hilarious! If you click on the things they're burning, they'll give you a list of heretical music, books, etc, classified by type. I have some issues with the classifications, though. I mean, I'm no music expert, but is it really appropriate to classify Bon Jovi under Country Filth? Make your own decision on the filth part, but country? :)
PS - Why is Bon Jovi considered heretical. Well, I'll tell you: "Richie Sambora (Bon Jovi guitarist) is not taking head [sic]to the Word of God when it comes to alcohol or his long hair. Bon Jovi is not doing no better [sic]either with keeping ungodly company."
I hope it's a joke. But, I think it's real. Very sad.
I suddenly have Fahrenheit 451 on my mind.
It seems like they are branding just about anything secular as heretical. They need to learn some serious restraint with the H word. This is not a good word to be pulling out lightly.
I really don't get these "King James is the only inspired translation" folks. There seems to be no solid logic there.
I went to the website and there is an audio file that play automatically. The pastor is telling a story about someone getting saved and buying the wrong Bible. Part of the testimony is a song which the pastor introduces. It is a county song. So I take it that it is not country music but the content of secular country music that they are protesting...
Anyone live in North Carolina ? You can get driving directions on the site, but its a bit far to go to check it out lol.
I went to church once with a Baptist preacher who was a King James only type. He would frequently accuse me of being a heretic because I preach from the NASB and the ESV. He said that all other versions besides the KJV take away from the majesty of God. I agree with Adam that some of the later translations have done an excellent job in literally translating the original manuscripts.
While there are some in there list that I would agree are heretics that need to be tossed out (Rob Bell, Donald Miller) I don't lump Piper, MacArthur into those categories.
Rick Warren is an idiot and a horrible teacher... a heretic... not sure... but apostate for sure.
Billy Graham has been accused of holding a wider mercy type view which would make him a heretic if that's true... to my knowledge its unconfirmed..
I agree with Kelly and Rachael in that I would question their categories as well as loosely tossing around the title heretic. A heretic is something quite specific and we need to be super careful where we place it. It needs to have far more scriptural backing before being applied.
I would ask that pastor, have you or anyone from your church tried to restore anyone from your list of heretics? Have you gone to any of those on the list who aren't heretics but clearly lost souls and tried sharing the Gospel message of repentance and faith with them? just a thought...
ooh I thought of one more sad thing about this... these folks just give true believers a bad name and people who are already hanging on to reasons for hating Christ more fuel for their rants.
the church's website is down! booooooo!
