Good News - 'Burn a Koran Day' Has Been Canceled

According to the Associated Press, Dr. Terry Jones has decided to back down from his hateful protest and is no longer planning to burn copies of the Koran, tomorrow.  This is good news; let's hope he doesn't change his mind.  Follow that link above for updates as this develops.

UPDATE - Apparently, this now involves the infamous Ground Zero Mosque:

A Florida minister who had created an international furor with his plan to burn the Quran on the ninth anniversary of 9/11 canceled the event under intense pressure Thursday, saying he agreed to back off after reaching a deal to move the location of a controversial mosque near New York's ground zero. The imam planning the New York mosque said no such deal has been reached...

...After the news conference, Musri told The Associated Press there was an agreement for him and Jones to travel to New York and meet Saturday — on the actual anniversary of the 9/11 attacks — with the imam overseeing plans to build a mosque near ground zero.

"I told the pastor that I personally believe the mosque should not be there, and I will do everything in my power to make sure it is moved," Musri said. "But there is not any offer from there (New York) that it will be moved. All we have agreed to is a meeting, and I think we would all like to see a peaceful resolution."

Those who wish to criticize Christianity will remember this as the day that an unreasonable and hateful pastor was talked down by a level-headed Muslim leader.  Thanks, Dr. Terry Jones, for making all of us look bad.  I hope your time in the spotlight it was worth the black eye your giving Christians everywhere.  Sheesh.

UPDATE - We're not out of this, yet.  Westboro Baptist Church plans to burns Korans if Dr. Terry Jones' church doesn't.  (You know, in the old days the church had a way of dealing with these nuts so that they wouldn't make the rest of the church look bad.)  If Westboro Baptist Church sounds familiar to you, that's because all nine of them are famous for protesting at soldiers funerals - an action every other church was quick to condemn.  We just can't plug these holes fast enough.  Anyway, this is from the Westboro story:

"WBC burned the Koran once – and if you sissy brats of Doomed america bully Terry Jones and the Dove World Outreach Center until they change their plans to burn that blasphemous tripe called the Koran, then WBC will burn it (again), to clearly show you some things," the church announced in a news release this week.

Ah, the sophistry of the insane.  Stay tuned.

UPDATE:  The NY Imam says no deal.
