Your Questions about Postmodernism...

Just an quick update: I've been getting some good questions about postmodernism and plan on answering these questions on my blog, Monday. If you have any questions you would like to ask you can email it to me or put it in the comment section.

Oops. Desmond found out that I used pictures of him without his permission.
He's going to be upset for a while.

From your post, what you describe as a post-modernist sounds like what I would call a person with a dialectical mindset. Are there any important differences between the two in your understanding? Does being post-modern imply that you favor going against the common metanarrative, or just that you're willing to question it?

Nullius in Verba!

"Incredulity to all metanarratives." makes postmodernism seem more like an attitude to me than a view in philosophy, but perhaps there is not much of a difference sometimes.

My question though concerns your statement that postmodernism is not a problem for my faith. Like you I'm a Christian. While I would disagree with your idea of what postmodernism is I think that on your definition it remains a problem for Christian faith.

I think its clear that Christianity offers its own metanarrative, or "over-arching story", which would include man's fall and God's providing salvation through Christ. If such a metanarrative is not what you mean in that it is not in the format you showed, how about a metanarrative which has things along the lines of: Everyone will sin if they live long enough. Or: Everyone who sins should put their faith in Christ.

According to the online dictionary I consulted, Incredulity means: the quality or state of being incredulous; inability or unwillingness to believe. It is synonymous with disbelief, skepticism, and doubt.

So my question is: why would postmodernism, defined as: "Incredulity to all metanarratives." given the above observations, not be a problem for my faith?

Thank you for your posts on this subject, I found them thought provoking.
